A Fond Farewell to our Dear Friend and Colleague, Mike Lawrence

April 17, 1949 – May 5, 2017

It is with our deepest sorrow that we mourn the loss of a great carpenter, visionary, colleague, teacher, and friend, Mike Lawrence.  Mike was the Construction Supervisor of Metro Disaster Specialists and a loyal employee for over 35 years.  Please join us in offering his family and friends our sincere condolences during this difficult time.

My first encounter with Mike was my very first day of work at Metro in 1989.  He was the superintendent assigned to a large remodel/expansion job here at our facilities and he scared me to death!  Now looking back some 30 years later, I understand that strong, gruff, loud man “barking” out instructions to his crew was really a strong, caring, extremely organized man with a vision to solve almost any problem that came up.  He wasn’t “barking” at his crew – he was teaching them how to be the best they could be and expected nothing more from them than he did of himself.  Mike’s commitment to excellence was never lost on his crew, many of whom credit Mike with teaching them everything they know about the disaster restoration business.

Mike always had a positive attitude and believed that if we worked together as a team we could make anything happen.  When asked how he was, Mike would always say “If I was any better, I’d have to take something for it.”  Mike’s vision, approach, and expertise portrayed a quiet confidence that brought excellence to everything he touched.  Overcoming obstacles came easy aside a man who would remind us, “If it was easy, children would be doing it.”  If an issue came up, all it took was for Mike to say “I’ll handle it, Bud” for everyone to be at ease that the issue would be successfully resolved promptly and professionally to the client’s satisfaction.

More about Mike and his family can be found in the link to his obituary. The Metro Team is grateful for all of his kind and compassionate contributions to the Company, and we are better people for having known and worked with him.  Mike was a giant in our industry and made Metro stronger, smarter, and better by everything he touched.  Rest in peace, dear friend and colleague.
